What is Rē doing on the ground?
Rē’s work happens through learning that grows alongside communities. It begins with relationships and the questions that emerge from the communities are part of and from the Land which sustains us.
Throughout 2026, Rē is continuing work with gardens, PAR (Participatory Action Research), and learning experiences that invite people into deeper connection with place.
Looking ahead, Rē will continue expanding learning opportunities through our flagship program, Future of Rural. This program brings together place-based learning, community knowledge and co-created research, experiential learning, reflective practice, and academic inquiry alongside a global network. Feedback from our Fall 2026 Pilot Cohort will help us to reflect on and refine course styles, program structures, and student experiences. Garden Work
Learning through The Land
Our ongoing garden work creates space for learning through the Land. These spaces remind us that education is not separate from the places we call home. It grows through attention, care, and time spent in relationship with the living world.
Participatory Action Research
( P A R )
Through Participatory Action Research, Rē walks alongside communities as they unpack questions that deeply matter to them. This work begins with observation, reflection, and listening. It then moves into identifying pressing community concerns and systematic power imbalances. Community researchers are supported in research processes, data gathering, and synthesis to inform co-generated solutions for these issues, while retaining community ownership over the knowledge. Rē’s role is to facilitate, guide, and support this process.
RēCircles
Rē regularly gathers with others who are reimagining higher education through our local and global networks – affectionately monikered our RēCircles. These gatherings create space for conversation, reflection, and the exchange of ideas that continue to shape our work.
Future of Rural
Future of Rural is Rē’s ongoing invitation to imagine what higher education can become when learning grows alongside communities.
This program brings together place-based learning, community knowledge and co-created research, experiential learning, reflective practice, and academic inquiry alongside a global network. Designed as a transformative M.A.-level higher education experience, Future of Rural invites curious minds into a learning process where relationships, lived experience, and multiple ways of knowing are valued alongside academic study.
Future of Rural is part of Rē’s broader vision for lifelong learning. Through short courses, fellowships, RēTours, and additional pathways, Rē is exploring new ways for education to become more connected to the places people call home.
