Environmental educator and activist Sarah Savory provides an overview of Holistic Management as a mechanism to regenerate degraded grazing lands in arid areas. She explains how narrow, reductionistic decision-making led to devastating environmental and social consequences. She outlines how holistic management elevates environmental integrity as the primary context for decision-making. Sarah also addresses common misconceptions about holistic management. She draws on specific examples in Zimbabwe of how holistic management has restored the biodiversity of areas under long-term holistic practices versus those under conventional management.
