The Rē Generation, Ep 4: Sam Meya on Strengthening Malawi’s Environment Through Regenerative Forestry

September 9, 2020 By Ashlei Laing Leave a Comment

Re’s Felix Bivens interviews Sam Meya, an expert WASH (wash, sanitation and hygiene) and community development practitioner. Sam has also been an environmental activist for many years. He discusses the massive deforestation that has happened in the country over the past 30 years, but also the current national efforts in Malawi to reforest vast swaths of the country, around 2 million hectares to date with another 1 million planned. Sam also analyzes the country’s long history of peace and stability, even after it’s transition to multi-party governance in the 1990s.

Rē is based in N’dakinna, which is the traditional ancestral homeland of the Abenaki, Pennacook and Wabanaki and Mi’kmaq Peoples past and present. We respectfully acknowledge and honor with gratitude the land and waterways and the alnobak (people) who have stewarded N’dakinna throughout the generations.
